Die Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM) fordert die interdisziplinäre Auseinandersetzung mit den medialen Künsten. Mit ihrem Projektstudium „Mediale Künste“ mit Diplomabschluss setzt sie einen Schwerpunkt auf Künstlerische Praxis in enger Verbindung mit der Entwicklung medientechnischer und -theoretischer Kompetenzen. Die Kunsthochschule verfolgt einen interdisziplinären Ansatz in der Lehre und Erforschung von Medien und Bildender Kunst.

An der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln ist in der Fächergruppe exMedia ab dem Sommersemester 2025 folgende Stelle zu besetzen:

halbe Professur (50%) für sound (m/w/d) (Besoldungsgruppe W3), unbefristet

Gesucht wird eine Persönlichkeit mit einem Arbeitsschwerpunkt auf experimentelle installative und/oder performative Praxis im Bereich Klang unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von DIY Aspekten. Dabei spielt die fundierte Auseinandersetzung mit theoretischen Diskursen um die gesellschaftlichen und politischen Bedeutungen von Klang (z.B. acoustic ecology) eine ebenso zentrale Rolle, wie auch praxisnahe forschende Ansätze. Ein solides Wissen um die physikalischen, physiologischen und psychologischen Grundbedingungen von Klang wird vorausgesetzt.

Gemeinsam mit zwei Kolleg*innen betreut sie den Klangbereich der KHM, sowohl in der Pflege und Weiterentwicklung des eigenen Arbeitsraums (Klangatelier) als auch in der Zusammenarbeit beim jährlichen Grundlagenseminar sound, der Veranstaltungsreihe soundings und gemeinsam geplanten Unternehmungen inner- und außerhalb der KHM. Die intensive und kontinuierliche Betreuung studentischer Projekte sowie die Veranstaltung von Seminaren ist ebenso fester Bestandteil dieser Professur, wie das aktive Engagement innerhalb der Fächergruppe und in der Hochschulselbstverwaltung.

Entscheidendes Kriterium für die Berufung ist eine herausragende künstlerische Befähigung. Weitere Voraussetzungen ergeben sich aus § 29 Kunsthochschulgesetz NRW. Pädagogische Eignung und Erfahrung, sowie ein besonderes Einfühlungsvermögen und soziale Kompetenz werden erwartet, wie auch sehr gute Englischkenntnisse.

Ein wesentlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf der kontinuierlichen Betreuung studentischer Projekte. Pädagogische Eignung und Erfahrung, sowie Einfühlungsvermögen und soziale Kompetenz werden erwartet. Bei Bedarf werden die Kosten für Sprachkurse in Deutsch/Englisch übernommen,__ um eine aktive Teilnahme an der Selbstverwaltung der Hochschule zu ermöglichen, insbesondere die Mitarbeit in Gremien und die Weiterentwicklung des Curriculums. Es wird erwartet, dass die/der Bewerber*in ihren/seinen Lebensmittelpunkt im Raum Köln haben wird.

With its project-based "Media and Fine Arts" diploma degree, it emphasizes the development of artistic practice, together with the acquisition of media technology and media-theoretical skills. The Academy pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching and researching of media and visual arts.

The department of exMedia at the KHM is offering the following position, starting from the summersemester 2025 on:

Professor of sound (m/f/d)W3 German salary scale
Part time (50%), permanent position

We are looking for an artist and researcher with a focus on experimental installative and/or performative practice in the field of sound, with an emphasis on DIY. Solid engagement with theoretical discourses on the social and political implications of sound (e.g. acoustic ecology) is equally central, as are practice-oriented research approaches. A solid knowledge of the physical, physiological and psychological basic conditions of sound is a prerequisite.

Together with two colleagues, the succesful applicant supervises the sound department of the KHM, both in the maintenance and further development of the professors own workspace (sound studio) as well as in the cooperation for the seminar basics of sound, the public event series soundings and other jointly planned undertakings inside and outside the KHM. The intensive and continuous supervision of student projects as well as the organization of seminars is an integral part of this professorship, as is the active involvement within the department of exMedia and in the university's self-administration.

The decisive criterion for the appointment is outstanding artistic ability. Further requirements result from § 29 Kunsthochschulgesetz NRW. Pedagogical aptitude and experience, as well as a special empathy and social competence are expected, as well as a very good knowledge of English.

A significant focus of the position is the continuous support of student projects. Pedagogical aptitude and experience, as well as sensitivity towards diverse student identities, empathy and social competence are expected. In case of the need for improved proficiency in German, the KHM will cover the tuition fees for language courses to enable active participation in the self-administration of the university, in particular participation in committees and the further development of the curriculum. Candidates are expected to move to the area of Cologne.
